Lynsey comes from a rich tradition of athletic excellence. She is the daughter of 1982 European Championships 200m silver medallist Cameron Sharp. Cameron is also remembered for his gold medal in the 4x100m at the 1978 Commonweath Games and his 3 bronze medals at the 1982 Commonwealth Games. Lynsey’s mother Carol represented Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in 1982 in 800m, and her sister Carly has represented Scotland at sprints and High Jump.

Lynsey enjoyed a superb season in 2012,  the highlights of which were winning the 800m UK Olympic Trials, then going on to win a silver medal at the European Championships in Helsinki, recording a PB of 2min 00.52 sec (her medal was later upgraded to gold).

From there, Lynsey was selected for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympic Games. A few weeks after her 22nd birthday, Lynsey performed extremely well in the heats, finishing 2nd and qualifying for the semi-final. Although she missed out on a place in the final on this occasion, her performance matched her world ranking in the event.

Remarkably, Lynsey achieved all of this during her final year of a Law degree. Her final exams and dissertation were due in the month of the Olympic Trials and despite the pressure from all around, Lynsey attained a 2:1 in her degree.

London 2012 has provided Lynsey with the experience of life in a competitive multi-sport environment at the highest level which she can take forward to the major championships over the next 4 years; World Championships 2013, Commonwealth Games 2014, World Championships 2015 and of course Olympic Games, Rio 2016. By the time the next Olympics come round, Lynsey will have a wealth of experience on and off the track and will be approaching the prime years of an elite middle distance athlete’s career span.

Currently aged 24, Lynsey has outstanding potential in her event and she intends to leave no stone unturned in her pledge to reach the very top echelons of women’s middle-distance running.

Achievements prior to this year include a bronze medal at the European Under-23 Championships in 2011 in Czech Republic in which she recorded a PB, and a bronze medal in the Commonwealth Youth Games in India in 2008. She is very much looking forward to competing in a Commonwealth Games in her own country  and will undoubtedly be a strong medal contender in the 800m as well as being a member of the Scottish 4x400m relay squad at the Games.
